Log Home Interior Finishes: Full Masonry Fireplace
The building crew in Rhode Island is making nice progress on the interior finishes of this custom log home. Interior projects include fireplace installation, electrical outlet preparation, and interior wall construction. Today we’re taking an up-close-and-personal look at the fireplace details.
The focal point in many of our log homes is indeed the fireplace. Every log home needs one. Outdoor fireplaces are popular as well. There’s also a good mix of wood-burning fireplaces and gas fireplaces with inserts incorporated in our log homes. Whatever the case may be, such elements are always the homeowner’s discretion.
Full Masonry Fireplace Construction
Our Rhode Island log home owners chose to include a jaw-dropping full masonry fireplace in their dream home. This wood-burning, see-through fireplace is centrally located in the great room, and because it is a full masonry fireplace, it is the “real deal”. It is constructed with brick and real stone and burns wood. If you love the smell of a roaring fire and the sound of poppin’ wood, then perhaps a full masonry fireplace is best for you!
Here’s how this fireplace project came together. First, the flue for the lower-level wood burning stove is installed. You can see it coming up from the basement here. It will be incorporated with the main level’s fireplace box which is constructed next. The second flue is added and the fireplace is “boxed out” with real field stone procured from the owner’s property. The stone is placed all the way up the two-story, double-sided fireplace.
The final outcome of this full masonry fireplace is stunning and looks like this.
As you can see, support posts were included in preparation for mantel placement. Just above the support posts, an electrical box was placed. Any guesses where these lucky homeowners will be seated on Game Day? That’s what we thought, too – directly in front of the BIG screen and roaring fire. (I hope we get an invite.)
Another important note about this fireplace is the built-in, half-round opening. It’s the little touches like this that make the biggest differences. This fully custom fireplace packs beauty and charm. Score!
