International Distribution: Log Home Dream in Ireland
A common question among new log home enthusiasts: Where do you ship your log homes? Timberhaven’s short answer to the question: Anywhere you desire. Whether you’re in our backyard here in Pennsylvania, a surrounding state, moving to the other side of the country, or anywhere in the world – we can get your dream log home to you!
For example, recently, a couple from Ireland decided a log home was in their future. After months of planning and researching, they found Hugh Martin, Timberhaven’s Ireland representative, who assisted them in achieving their dream. Here’s how this project fell seamlessly together…
International Distribution: The floor plan / custom design
The couple had already secured a scenic – one-of-a-kind – parcel in the Irish countryside. The next step was to initiate a design. Hugh worked with the couple to get some of their thoughts and ideas on paper. Their concepts led to architectural flair and a fully customized log home.
Timberhaven’s design team has created hundreds of completely customized log home designs through the years – each custom design typically presents a new or interesting design feature or design challenge for the team. In this case, the Irish homeowners wanted full-length windows that extended to the floor in conjunction with unique glass configurations that complimented their 58’ x 26’ sitting room … a sitting room that may be larger than your current house (it is mine). This unique space also featured a heavy timbered cathedral ceiling. It’s going to be breathtaking.
The combination of the aforementioned elements and the creative work by our design team resulted in a 6,608 square foot log mansion made with 6” x 8” D-shaped laminated logs, multiple offices, 3 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a 66 ft. deck. Over 1.5 miles of logs (8,087 lineal ft to be exact) were produced for this international home.
International Distribution: The manufacturing process
Modifications were implemented to Timberhaven’s standard operating procedures to accommodate for the international project. Our staff worked hand-in-hand with SEDA-COG and the FDA to ensure we were meeting the strict international regulations set forth by the government. One regulation required the utilization of these custom handmade pallets. The kiln-dried laminated logs and timbers were wrapped in 18 separate packs and bundled in these 12 specialized pallets.
Manufacturing a home of this magnitude required more time and effort as the home nearly tripled the size of one of our average homes. Our production and shipping teams took pride in their work and treated this home as if it was their own, handling each log with care and perfecting each cut. From start to finish, they did an impressive job working seamlessly to manufacture this one-of-a-kind log home.
International Distribution: Preparing containers for the sea…
A total of three international sea containers were needed to carry this massive log package across the Atlantic Ocean. On December 23, 2014, the containers were loaded and additional challenges were overcome as every pack had to be strategically positioned in such a way that there was no wasted space. We literally filled each container – could not have shipped one more Cedar Shake shingle.
International Distribution: Delivery takes place
On Monday, January 26th, 2015, the specialized Timberhaven log home package reached its destination in Co. Wexford, Ireland. Hugh Martin was there to take receipt of the containers and inventory the materials.
International Distribution: What’s next?
One of the most massive log homes in Ireland is now fully under construction. Whohoo! Can you tell we’re excited? We certainly are. Check back for photos of this exclusive log home project.
Looks like an amazing house. I look forward to viewing photos of it under construction!
