Nature-Friendly: Zero Waste Factor
A nature-friendly question we frequently hear during client or group manufacturing tours is: What do you do with the waste? The short answer to the question is: We maintain a zero-waste factor.
Here’s how we achieve this.
Raw kiln-dried materials that are shipped directly to Timberhaven are used to produce Premium-Grade Kiln-Dried Engineered Logs or Timbers, Kiln-Dried Traditional Solid Logs or Timbers, Beam & Purlin roof members, outdoor timber structures, decorative trusses and so much more.
There is always a small percentage of material that does not meet our high-quality specifications, though. When this happens, the material is cut down into other usable products like log siding corners, 2x or 1x trim, window and door bucks, spindles for railing, etc. The material is cut down smaller and smaller until it cannot be utilized anymore. At that point, these materials are compiled for use in the shop’s wood burning furnace, the building’s only source of heat. In some instances, unusable materials are also used as firewood for our neighbors’ homes or hobby wood for crafters.
The White Pine wood shavings and saw dust are collected and provided to local farmers for use as turkey and chicken bedding. The Oak shavings that are accumulated when we manufacture bridge timbers, are also used by local farmers for cattle bedding.
Thus, here in this nature-friendly environment at Timberhaven, we are pleased to report that NOTHING goes to waste. Whether we’re cutting the crucial logs or timbers for your dream home or the simple trim for your windows, providing heat for our homes, or a comfortable place for hundreds of animals to sleep; all materials that pass through our facility have a purpose. If that isn’t environmentally conscious and nature-friendly, what is?
